Ranma ½

A closer look at the story

Ranma Saotome is a young athlete devoted to the martial arts. Together with his father, Genma, he heads for Jusenkyo, a legendary and "cursed" training ground in China. Despite every warning from the Chinese guide, father and son end up falling into the cursed springs. The accident changes Ranma's life completely: from then on, a splash of cold water transforms him into a cute, strong, red-haired girl. A dose of hot water restores him to his usual self, though only until the next cold splash. As if that were not enough, his father has arranged for Ranma to marry Akane Tendo, who cannot stand boys. Trying to cope with both the bizarre curse and his arranged fiancée, Ranma is swept into one wild fight and comic mix-up after another. First broadcast by Fuji TV in 1989 and spanning 161 episodes, this martial arts comedy anime features Kappei Yamaguchi as the voice of male Ranma and Megumi Hayashibara as female Ranma.
