Star Trek: The Next Generation — Captain Picard and the new Enterprise

A closer look at the story

Star Trek: The Next Generation takes place about a century after the original series. In this future, after a fictional Third World War, humanity has joined with other sentient species in the galaxy to found the United Federation of Planets. Having realised it is not alone in the universe, humankind has left many of its weaknesses and bad habits behind. The story centres on a starship that once again bears the name Enterprise but is far newer and more advanced: the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D. In command is Captain Jean-Luc Picard. With a loyal crew that includes figures such as William Riker, Data, Geordi La Forge and Worf, Picard journeys deep into the galaxy to explore new worlds. Created by Gene Roddenberry and running from 1987 for seven seasons and 176 episodes, this space-faring drama stars Patrick Stewart as Picard.
