A closer look at the story

Fujino is a cheerful pupil who is very popular in her class. The funny four-panel manga she publishes in the school newspaper earn her plenty of praise from her classmates, and she thoroughly enjoys the attention. One day, however, the teacher wants Fujino to split her space in the paper with Kyomoto, a withdrawn pupil who never comes to school. When Kyomoto's artwork appears, Fujino is stunned: it is far more beautiful and accomplished than her own. This stirs a powerful competitive drive in Fujino. Yet the relationship that begins with jealousy gradually becomes a very different bond as the two girls discover their shared passion for drawing, until something happens that shakes everything. This heart-wrenching coming-of-age story offers a moving look at creativity and friendship.
