Back to the Future: A trip to 1955 to save his own existence
A closer look at the story
Marty McFly, a high school student in 1985, is accidentally sent to 1955 in a time machine that his friend, the eccentric inventor Doc Brown, has built into a DeLorean. Within hours of arriving, he unintentionally prevents his teenage parents from meeting. The mistake threatens not only his family's story but his own existence. Marty has to find a way to bring his parents together while also enlisting the younger Doc Brown of 1955 to help him get back to his own time. Directed by Robert Zemeckis, who wrote it with Bob Gale, the 1985 film stars Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd in a science-fiction comedy that blends humour and adventure.
