The Simpsons

A closer look at the story

The Simpsons is an animated comedy about the everyday escapades of the Simpson family in Springfield, a supposedly average American town. Father Homer works at the nuclear power plant and tries to lead his family, though things rarely go to plan. Kind-hearted Marge, famous for her tall blue hair, trouble-prone Bart, high-achieving Lisa and baby Maggie complete the household. Together with the town's enormous supporting cast, the series takes a fearless satirical look at politics, the media and American life, and over the years it has drawn a long line of celebrity guest stars. Created by Matt Groening and first broadcast on FOX in December 1989, it is recorded as continuing, with 38 seasons and 807 episodes, and stars the voices of Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright and Yeardley Smith.
