A closer look at the story

Moana takes place in ancient Polynesia and follows Moana, the headstrong daughter of a chieftain on one of the islands of the South Pacific. She comes from a long line of seafarers who crossed the waves for generations. When a terrible curse set loose by the demigod Maui spreads all the way to her island and begins to endanger her people, Moana feels the Ocean calling to her and makes a bold decision: she will sail out, track down the demigod responsible and put things right. Once she finds Maui, a figure she has long looked up to, she will have to join forces with him to help her family and her home. So begins Moana's great adventure across the sea. John Musker and Ron Clements directed this 107-minute animated adventure from 2016, written for the screen by Jared Bush. Auliʻi Cravalho voices Moana and Dwayne Johnson voices Maui, with Rachel House as Gramma Tala, Temuera Morrison as Chief Tui and Jemaine Clement as Tamatoa.
