Sense and Sensibility

A closer look at the story

The death of their father changes everything for Elinor and Marianne Dashwood. Left without the family fortune, the two sisters move to the countryside with their mother and younger sister to live a far more modest life. In their new surroundings, far from the comfort they were used to, a difficult period begins. The sisters could hardly be more different. Elinor tries to keep her feelings in check and is guided by reason. Marianne, on the other hand, listens to her heart and lives her emotions freely. Facing tough choices about love and marriage, the sisters try to find happiness amid disappointment and the pressures society places on them. Adapted from Jane Austen's novel, directed by Georgia Oakley and scripted by Diana Reid, this 132-minute 2026 romantic drama stars Daisy Edgar-Jones as Elinor and Esmé Creed-Miles as Marianne, with Caitríona Balfe and Fiona Shaw also in the cast.
