The Revenant
The Revenant: Revenge of a man left for dead
A closer look at the story
In the 1820s, Hugh Glass is a seasoned trapper who knows the territory well, working for a company that hunts animals for their fur. In a dangerous region also crossed by Native tribes and French forces, he is savaged by a grizzly bear, and members of his party, unwilling to be slowed down, abandon him to die. Glass clings to life, however, and as he slowly recovers he embarks on a long journey to settle accounts with those who left him behind. Adapted by Alejandro G. Iñárritu and Mark L. Smith from Michael Punke's novel and directed by Iñárritu, the 157-minute 2015 film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, Domhnall Gleeson and Will Poulter in a brutal tale of survival and revenge.
