Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden
Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden: Family life in Meerdijk
A closer look at the story
Often shortened to GTST, Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden is one of the Netherlands' most established soap operas. Its title means "Good Times, Bad Times", and its stories unfold in Meerdijk, an invented town. At the centre of its stories are several families who live there: the Sanders, Alberts, Bouwhuis, De Jong and Van Houten families. Their lives frequently touch and overlap. Characters such as Laura, Janine Elschot, Ludo Sanders, Jef Alberts and Rik de Jong are characters viewers have known for years. Airing on RTL 4 since 1990 and also available on Videoland, the soap has cast performers such as Jette van der Meij, Caroline de Bruijn, Erik de Vogel, Bartho Braat and Ferri Somogyi.
