A closer look at the story

Truman Burbank is an ordinary insurance salesman living in a seaside town as pretty as a postcard. What he does not know is that the town is really a gigantic studio, that everyone around him, his wife included, is an actor, and that every moment of his life is being shown live to a vast audience. At the head of this enormous production stands its creator and director, Christof. When small oddities in his everyday life start to pile up, Truman begins to suspect that his world is not what it seems. Directed by Peter Weir and written by Andrew Niccol, the 103-minute 1998 film stars Jim Carrey, Ed Harris, Laura Linney and Noah Emmerich in a thought-provoking comedy-drama.
