The Untouchables

A closer look at the story

Prohibition-era Chicago is a city of rising crime and a corrupt police force. Ambitious federal agent Eliot Ness is given the job of bringing down mob boss Al Capone, the city's undisputed ruler. Capone's power is so great, however, that no one believes Ness can succeed. On the verge of losing heart, Ness meets Jim Malone, a seasoned beat cop and the first honest man he has found on the force. With Malone's help he recruits sharpshooter George Stone and accountant Oscar Wallace to form a small team that will become known as "The Untouchables", though some of the methods they use against Capone are far from legal. Brian De Palma directs David Mamet's screenplay; the 119-minute 1987 film stars Kevin Costner, Sean Connery, Robert De Niro and Andy Garcia in a crime classic.
