Agatha Christie's Poirot: A detective and his little grey cells

A closer look at the story

Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, familiar from Agatha Christie's novels and short stories, takes on a host of baffling cases in this classic series, with investigations that stretch from England all the way to Egypt. Small, fastidious and almost obsessive about symmetry, Poirot stands out for his intellect and his singular, rather fussy refinement. The culprits he faces are masters of first-rate trickery, but by putting his famous "little grey cells" to work, Poirot manages to untangle even the most elaborate schemes. He does not work alone: at times his secretary Miss Lemon is by his side, at times his closest friend Captain Arthur Hastings, and very often Chief Inspector Japp. Together with these loyal and elegant companions, Poirot uncovers the truth behind one murder after another, his calm, courteous manner concealing razor-sharp powers of observation. Launched on ITV1 in 1989 and running for 13 seasons and 70 episodes, this mystery series stars David Suchet as Poirot, alongside Hugh Fraser, Philip Jackson and Pauline Moran.
