Ayla: The Daughter of War

A closer look at the story

In 1950, as the Korean War breaks out, Turkey answers a United Nations call by sending a brigade to the peninsula. One of its sergeants, Süleyman, finds a small girl alone on the battlefield, half frozen and with no family left, and risks a great deal to bring her back to his unit. He names her Ayla because her face reminds him of the moon, and over the following months the two grow deeply attached. As the end of his tour approaches, Süleyman starts searching for a way not to leave her behind. Directed by Can Ulkay and written by Yiğit Güralp, the 2017 film stars İsmail Hacıoğlu, Kim Seol and Çetin Tekindor in an emotional drama about a bond formed in the middle of a war.
