Oppenheimer

A closer look at the story

As the Second World War rages, American physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer is chosen to lead the science behind the secret Manhattan Project, the effort to build an atomic bomb. Gathering some of the brightest minds of his generation at a laboratory in the desert, he races against time while having to reckon with military leadership and with his own conscience. After the war, the political and moral cost of the power he helped unleash comes to shape his career and his life. Christopher Nolan wrote and directed the 181-minute 2023 film, which casts Cillian Murphy in the title role alongside Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr. and Florence Pugh in a biographical drama about science, power and responsibility.
