The Long Walk

A closer look at the story

In a dystopian America ruled by a totalitarian regime, a traditional and deadly contest is held every year: the Long Walk. The fifty teenage boys who take part face a single rule: never drop below a set walking pace. Anyone who cannot keep up is executed. The walk goes on until only one of them is left alive. Raymond Garraty is among those setting out on this merciless journey. As hours turn into days, exhaustion, pain and fear become unbearable, yet the friendships formed along the road both give these young men strength and confront them with the hardest test of all: watching a friend fall. Contestants such as Peter McVries, Billy Stebbins and Hank Olson each cling to their own reason to keep walking. Francis Lawrence brings this Stephen King story to the screen in a 108-minute 2025 dystopian thriller starring Cooper Hoffman and David Jonsson.
