The Platform

A closer look at the story

In a vertical facility built level upon level, one platform piled with food is lowered from the top each day. Those near the top can eat as much as they like, while by the time it reaches the lower floors there is almost nothing left. Newly arrived, Goreng learns the harsh unwritten rules from longer-term residents such as Trimagasi and watches how the system changes the people inside it. As the anger of those below grows, an uprising begins to look inevitable. Directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia from a screenplay by Pedro Rivero and David Desola, the 2019 Spanish film is an unsettling allegory about sharing, selfishness and solidarity, with some graphic scenes.
