The Weight
The Weight: A dangerous gold smuggling job in exchange for freedom
A closer look at the story
Samuel Murphy's world collapses when he is locked up in a brutal prison, far from his daughter. One day, Warden Clancy comes to Samuel with an extremely risky offer. The terms are simple: gold is to be smuggled out of a remote mine, and Samuel will do the job alongside a crew of highly dangerous inmates. If he completes the mission, he will be granted his freedom in return. Seizing on the offer in the hope of being reunited with his daughter, Samuel is soon caught up in a gruelling journey with a crew of men he cannot trust. Directed by Padraic McKinley and written by Shelby Gaines and Matthew Booi, this 112-minute 2026 crime thriller stars Ethan Hawke as Samuel Murphy and Russell Crowe as Warden Clancy.
