A closer look at the story
Fargo is an anthology series set in and around Minnesota, offering a new story and a new cast of characters each season. What these stories share is malice, violence and murder. In a world where ordinary-looking people are suddenly swept up in bloody events, and where dark ambitions simmer beneath polite small-town life, suspense is intertwined with black comedy. The series takes its inspiration from the Coen brothers' 1996 film of the same name and carries its strange, ironic tone into a different era and a different crime each season. Characters such as Molly Solverson, Gus Grimly, Loy Cannon and Oraetta Mayflower are among its memorable figures. Created and written by Noah Hawley, the series aired on FX from 2014 for five seasons and 51 episodes, with names such as Allison Tolman, Chris Rock and Jessie Buckley in its cast.
