KINONOOK / EN

A closer look at the story

1917 is set at the peak of the First World War and follows two young British soldiers handed an almost impossible assignment. Lance Corporals Schofield and Blake are ordered to cross enemy-held ground and carry a message to the front line, a message that is the only thing able to call off a deadly attack. A British unit is unknowingly marching into a trap, and among its men is Blake's own brother. As the clock runs down, the pressure on the two soldiers mounts, because delivering the order in time could save a great many lives. Crossing a landscape full of danger, Schofield and Blake have to get past the dangers waiting behind enemy lines. Sam Mendes directed this 119-minute war drama from 2019, which he wrote together with Krysty Wilson-Cairns. George MacKay plays Schofield and Dean-Charles Chapman plays Blake, with Mark Strong, Andrew Scott and Richard Madden also appearing.
