Squid Game
Squid Game: A deadly contest built on children's games
Original title: 오징어 게임
A closer look at the story
Hundreds of people crushed by debt and money worries receive a strange invitation: to take part in a contest whose winner will walk away with a huge cash prize. At first glance the games are the simple ones everybody played as a child, but the competitors quickly realise that the price of losing is far heavier than they imagined. Player 456, Seong Gi-hun, is one of those who step inside hoping to rebuild a broken life. Created by Hwang Dong-hyuk and released on Netflix from 2021 across three seasons and 22 episodes, the Korean series stars Lee Jung-jae, Wi Ha-jun and Lee Byung-hun in a brutal thriller about inequality and desperation.
