A closer look at the story
Recorded before a live studio audience, El hormiguero is a Spanish TV programme that has been running since September 2006. The show has a style of entertainment all its own, bringing together comedy, science and politics. Screenwriter Pablo Motos is both its presenter and its producer. Among the programme's best-known faces are the puppet ants Trancas and Barrancas. Alongside them, figures such as Luis Piedrahita, Raquel Martos, Marron and "The Man in Black" appear regularly. El hormiguero began on Spain's Cuatro channel, where it stayed until June 2011, before moving to Antena 3. In its third season, which began in September 2007, the programme went from weekly to daily broadcasts. Created by Pablo Motos, it is one of Spain's long-running entertainment shows.
