Braveheart: The man who roused Scotland

KINONOOK / EN

A closer look at the story

In thirteenth-century Scotland, King Edward I of England is tightening his grip in a bid to bring the Scots under his crown. William Wallace, who lost his family to this struggle as a boy, has married his childhood sweetheart, Murron. When his young bride is slaughtered, however, a fierce anger is unleashed in him. His revenge against the local English lord's men sets first his village and then the whole country rising against English rule. Directed by Mel Gibson, who also plays Wallace, and written by Randall Wallace, the 178-minute 1995 film stars Sophie Marceau, Patrick McGoohan and Catherine McCormack in an epic historical drama.
