A closer look at the story

At first glance, Boston detective Jane Rizzoli and her friend, medical examiner Dr. Maura Isles, could hardly be less alike, yet those very differences may be what make them such a formidable team. Jane is the sole woman detective in the Boston police homicide unit. She is hard-nosed and stubborn, never knows when to quit, rarely shows her feelings and almost never lowers her defences. Maura, meanwhile, is an always immaculately dressed scientist who can sometimes come across as cool and distant; after all, she feels far more at ease surrounded by the dead than by the living. Over time, the two women have built an unusual but deeply supportive friendship. Able to relax their guard in each other's company, Jane and Maura pool their expertise to crack the city's thorniest murder cases. Created by Janet Tamaro and running on TNT from 2010 for seven seasons and 105 episodes, this crime series stars Angie Harmon as Jane and Sasha Alexander as Maura.
