The first trailer for Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew arrived on October 13, 2026. Showing Aslan as a majestic constellation, it sharpened both the film’s tone and its release plan. Here is everything from the trailer and the announcements.
What is in the trailer
The trailer was unveiled at a New York event during a conversation between Gerwig and Stephen Colbert. The footage is built around Aslan appearing in the sky as a constellation, with Meryl Streep voicing him. The trailer also uses Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven”, a choice that points to a personal interpretation rather than a classic fantasy fairy tale.
Release plan
The film goes to cinemas first. The theatrical release is February 12, 2027, with IMAX and other premium large-format previews on February 10, 2027. The Netflix date is April 2, 2027. Netflix handles distribution in the US and Canada; Sony Pictures handles cinema distribution outside North America. The length of the theatrical window varies by report from over 30 days to about seven weeks.
Story and cast
The film is based on the story in C. S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia that tells how Narnia came to be. Our catalogue cast includes David McKenna, Beatrice Campbell, Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan and Ciarán Hinds. For the story summary and cast details, see our Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew page.
Why it matters
A major streaming platform taking a film to cinemas first is notable both for the Narnia universe’s return to the cinema experience and for the platform’s theatrical strategy. There is no separate Turkish distribution announcement yet; follow cinema announcements.
