A Place Called Silence
A Place Called Silence: Violence fed by silence
Original title: Un lugar llamado silencio
A closer look at the story
Chen Yutong is a pupil at a girls' middle school. School, however, is anything but a safe place for her: Yutong is bullied there again and again. Her mother, Li Han, tries to rescue her daughter from this "hell" but cannot. What is most shocking is that everyone around them looks the other way and chooses to ignore what is happening. Over time, this shared silence plants the seeds of far greater violence. Directed by Sam Quah, who co-wrote the script with two collaborators, this 119-minute 2024 Chinese thriller stars Ning Chang, Francis Ng Chun-Yu and Wang Chuanjun.
