A closer look at the story

In 1989 a meteor shower falls on the small town of Smallville, Kansas, and changes its fate forever. With it comes young Kal-El, a refugee from the planet Krypton, while the same fragments of space rock cause some of the townspeople to mutate and gain superhuman abilities. Years later, the boy raised as Clark Kent wrestles with the problems every teenager faces, such as first love, schoolwork and worries about the future, while also trying to control his emerging extraordinary powers and learn about his origins beyond Earth. Clark also takes on dangerous mutants created by LuthorCorp's experiments with the meteor rocks, while his close friend Lex Luthor is heading down a very different path. Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the series began on The WB in 2001, continued on The CW and ended after 10 seasons and 216 episodes; Tom Welling, Kristin Kreuk and Michael Rosenbaum star in this superhero drama.
