A closer look at the story

A deadly car crash in Mexico City changes the lives of three people who have never met, all at once. Young Octavio is in love with Susana, his brother's wife, and dreams of running away with her. To raise the money he needs, he makes use of his dog, Cofi, but the forbidden love turns into a road with no way back. Elsewhere, Daniel has left his wife and daughters to build a new life with the beautiful model Valeria. Just when he believes he has everything, a tragic accident turns Valeria's life upside down, and when their little dog Richi falls through a gap in the apartment floor, it marks the beginning of the couple's unravelling. The third story centres on a man who lives on the streets. Dogs are the invisible thread binding these three stories together. Directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu and written by Guillermo Arriaga, this 154-minute 2000 Mexican film stars Gael García Bernal, Emilio Echevarría and Goya Toledo.
