Whiplash

A closer look at the story

Young drummer Andrew Neyman has a single goal: to be the best. That ambition puts him in the classroom of Terrence Fletcher, a jazz teacher who is the stuff of his students' nightmares. Fletcher pushes his pupils to their limits with humiliating insults and merciless methods, and Andrew is determined to meet his demands whatever the cost. Practising until his hands bleed, the young man is ready to risk even his humanity in pursuit of perfection. The clash of wills between two forceful personalities escalates into a musical duel. Written and directed by Damien Chazelle, the 107-minute 2014 film pits Miles Teller against J.K. Simmons in a tense music drama.
