A closer look at the story
Philip J. Fry is an ordinary pizza delivery boy living in late-20th-century New York. On the New Year's Eve that ushers in the year 2000, a mishap at a lab where he is delivering an order sends him tumbling into a cryogenic freezer. When he opens his eyes, the calendar reads 31 December 2999: he has been frozen for exactly a thousand years. In the retro-futuristic world of the 31st century, Fry meets one-eyed Leela and the robot Bender, who share a loathing for the jobs they have been given. Fry tracks down his only living relative, his elderly nephew Professor Farnsworth, and goes to work at his interplanetary delivery company, Planet Express. And so begin crazy adventures that span every corner of the universe. Created by Matt Groening, the series started on FOX in 1999 and continued on Comedy Central and Hulu; it is a science-fiction animated comedy voiced by Billy West, Katey Sagal and John DiMaggio.
