Inglourious Basterds

A closer look at the story

In German-occupied France during the Second World War, young Shosanna Dreyfus narrowly escapes when her family is killed on the orders of the ruthless Colonel Hans Landa. Years later she runs a movie theatre in Paris under an assumed name. At the same time Lt. Aldo Raine commands a unit of Jewish-American soldiers, created to strike terror into the Nazis and known to their enemies as the Basterds. Once a German film star becomes involved, two separate plans start heading towards the same night at Shosanna's cinema. Tarantino is both writer and director of this 153-minute 2009 film, which stars Brad Pitt, Mélanie Laurent, Christoph Waltz, Eli Roth and Michael Fassbender in an audacious war picture.
