How to Train Your Dragon

A closer look at the story

On the craggy island of Berk, whose Vikings have been the dragons' sworn enemies for generations, Hiccup is unlike anyone else. The inventive but constantly overlooked son of Viking chief Stoick, he does something that defies centuries of tradition: he makes friends with Toothless, a Night Fury, one of the most feared kinds of dragon. Their unexpected bond lays bare the true nature of dragons and shakes the bedrock of the Vikings' whole way of life. In a world that also includes the determined, ambitious Astrid and the village's eccentric blacksmith Gobber, Hiccup comes face to face with an order ruled by fear and misunderstanding. When an ancient threat arises that endangers Vikings and dragons alike, his friendship with Toothless will become the key to a new future. Written and directed by Dean DeBlois, this 125-minute 2025 live-action adaptation stars Mason Thames, Nico Parker and Gerard Butler.
