A closer look at the story

Dr. Kenzo Tenma is a renowned and extremely gifted Japanese brain surgeon who has built a successful career in Germany. One day he witnesses the tears of a woman who lost her husband because another patient was given priority. The incident shakes him deeply, and he vows never again to rank his patients by their social status. That resolve is soon put to the test: he chooses to operate on a young boy shot in the head rather than on the mayor. But the right decision costs him his standing at the hospital, the future of his career and his fiancée. The boy he operated on later disappears. Then the hospital director and the doctors who blamed Tenma are murdered one after another. Tenma gets his old job back, but that alone is enough to make him the prime suspect in the killings. His life is turned completely upside down when his path crosses that of a psychopath who was once his patient. Launched on Nippon TV in 2004 and running for 74 episodes, this thriller anime features Hidenobu Kiuchi as the voice of Tenma.
