The Diplomat

A closer look at the story

US diplomat Kate Wyler is handed a daunting assignment: with an international crisis in full swing, she is sent to the United Kingdom as ambassador. The prominent post brings a responsibility in which every move she makes is closely watched and every decision could affect relations between the two countries. Her battles are not confined to the negotiating table, though. Her marriage to a high-flying political figure is also going through a tense period. While trying to manage the crisis and protect her country's interests, Kate also searches for ways to hold her shaken marriage together. The line between work and private life becomes increasingly blurred. Created by Debora Cahn and streaming on Netflix since 2023, this political drama stars Keri Russell as Kate Wyler, with Rufus Sewell, Rory Kinnear and Ato Essandoh also in the cast.
