A closer look at the story

Hosted by the astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, Cosmos takes viewers on a voyage of discovery that runs from the beginning of the universe to the present day. Following in the footsteps of Carl Sagan's celebrated 1980 series, Cosmos: A Personal Journey, it explores landmark findings in astronomy, physics and biology, how gravity works and where space and time came from, all in clear, accessible terms. Each episode is built around its own theme, with scientific theories, historical figures and natural phenomena presented through effects-driven storytelling. Created by Ann Druyan and Steven Soter and first broadcast on FOX and National Geographic in 2014, the two-season, 26-episode series sets out to spark curiosity and scientific thinking.
