Casting for Bond 26, the James Bond film to be directed by Denis Villeneuve, is still under way, and as of October 30, 2026 the new Bond has not been announced. Reports say the producers plan to name the new 007 by the end of the year. Here is what is known so far.

The team

Villeneuve’s involvement was confirmed in June 2025. The casting decision is made by the director together with casting director Nina Gold and producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman. Amy Pascal is reported to have said the new Bond will be announced by the end of 2026.

What kind of actor is being sought?

According to reports, the team wants an “unknown” British actor in his late twenties or early thirties. It is said that the first round of auditions is finished and that the director and producers have been speaking to actors about the next round. Various names circulate, but they are unconfirmed, so we do not repeat them.

The timeline

Filming is expected to begin in 2027 and the film is expected to open in 2028. Some of the “new Bond” headlines in recent days were about Young Bond: SilverFin, a separate production unrelated to Bond 26; the two should not be confused.
